Find EV Installer

EV charger grants & installer certifications

Several UK schemes can knock hundreds of pounds, or thousands for workplaces and landlords, off the cost of an EV charger install. OZEV approval, NICEIC and NAPIT are the credentials that decide which installers can deliver them. Here's a plain-English guide to both.

Grants

OZEV EV chargepoint grant (renters & flat-owners)

£350 off a home EV charger for people who rent their home or own a flat. Since April 2022 the homeowner version has been retired, so single-family homeowners no longer qualify. Your installer must be OZEV-approved and claims the grant on your behalf.

OZEV grant for landlords

£350 per chargepoint, up to 200 sockets a year, for residential and commercial landlords installing chargers at their properties. Available across all UK nations. Claimed by the installer.

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

£350 per socket, up to 40 sockets per business. Covers the purchase and install of workplace chargers for staff and fleet use. Eligible to businesses, charities and public-sector organisations with off-street parking. Your installer must be OZEV-authorised.

EV Infrastructure Grant for staff and fleets

Covers up to 75% of the cost of groundworks and supporting infrastructure (cabling, wiring, posts) for small and medium businesses, capped at £15,000 per grant. Used alongside the Workplace Charging Scheme to fund larger installs.

Certifications

OZEV-approved installer

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles maintains a list of authorised installers who can claim the OZEV chargepoint and workplace grants on your behalf. If a grant applies to your install, the installer must be on this list — otherwise you can't claim the money.

NICEIC

A registered electrical contractor scheme. The most common credential for EV charger installers: it covers competency in EV charging equipment, Part P building regulations and 18th Edition wiring rules. Verify any installer at niceic.com.

NAPIT

The other main competent-person scheme for electrical work in domestic and commercial settings. EV-specific certification (EVCS) is offered and is widely held alongside or instead of NICEIC.

MCS (for solar-linked installs)

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme matters if you're pairing your charger with solar PV or battery storage — the renewables side of the install needs an MCS-certified company to qualify for any solar grants or zero-rated VAT. Pure EV-charger installs don't require MCS.
